If you have heard people talk about getting a full-body workout in just 20 minutes, there is a good chance they were talking about EMS training. At Sports Wonderful in Homer Glen, EMS is one of the most common things new clients ask us about, so here is a simple guide to what it is and what to expect.

What does EMS stand for?

EMS stands for Electro Muscle Stimulation. During a session you wear a specially designed suit with built-in electrodes. The system sends low-level electrical impulses to your major muscle groups, similar to the signals your brain sends when you move. The result is a deeper muscle contraction than you would typically get from the same movement on its own.

What happens in a session?

EMS is not a passive workout where you stand still. Your coach guides you through simple, controlled exercises such as squats, lunges, core holds and posture work while the impulses intensify each contraction. A typical session looks like this:

  • Quick check-in about your goals, energy and any areas to focus on.
  • Suit-up in the EMS suit, with your coach setting the intensity for each muscle group.
  • About 20 minutes of training in short cycles of activation and rest.
  • Wrap-up with notes on how to build on the session.

Why is it only 20 minutes?

Because the impulses reach many muscle groups at the same time, EMS lets you work more of your body in less time. That makes it a strong option for busy professionals, parents, and athletes who want consistent training without spending hours in a gym.

Who is EMS training for?

  • People with busy schedules who want efficient, effective workouts
  • Anyone looking to build strength, improve posture or tone up
  • Athletes who want to add strength work without heavy lifting
  • Beginners who want a coach guiding every rep

Is it safe?

EMS training is used worldwide and is supervised one-on-one at our studio by a certified miha bodytec® trainer, who adjusts intensity to your comfort level. EMS is not recommended for everyone, including people with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices and people who are pregnant. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor first, and let your coach know before your session.
